STARworks

Today I had the pleasure of touring, and meeting several of the wonderful folks, at STARworks. Joseph has been part of the team installing their biodiesel plant. They're a business incubator, and at present include glass, ceramics, a garden and geothermal business at the site, with many more interesting ideas percolating. They're a wonderfully creative bunch. It was a pleasure being around all their good energy. The garden was gorgeous, and amazingly productive so late in the season. Good job, Anne!

Joseph can Can

The weather has turned just enough to feel a bit of fall in the air. I expect the hummingbirds will depart for warmer climes soon. This is a picture of some of Joseph's recent handiwork. We had our first success with tomatillos, so he combined them with our chipotle peppers, tomatoes, onions, lots of garlic, parsley & oregano to make some excellent salsa. I am not a great fan of the usual salsa, but this stuff is good! And all grown here except for the salt. Joseph has been in Massachusett's & gets back this evening. He was part of a team from Piedmont Biofuels that delivered a biodiesel plant to a farm co-op there. Speaking of which, the state recently approved a measure calling for school buses to run on biodiesel, & Piedmont will be a supplier. How cool is that?

New Beginnings

Thanks to Meredith of Whynot Pottery, I've created this blog. Today I've been researching making soap incorporating glycerin from the biodiesel process. I've recently been offered some biodiesel glycerin to play with, and hope to make my first batch this Saturday. I'm excited! This will be a bit different from any I've made in the past, so I'll see what I can create. With the first returns of the election rolling in, it feels to be a good time to create new things.
