Laughter and Conversation

Whynot Pottery's 30 Year Celebration and New Earth Fabrication's Open House were both great fun this past weekend.  We had beautiful weather for the show at Whynot.  Many folks came out to be the first to try Four Saints St. Nicholas Christmas Ale, and do some shopping too.  There weren't a huge amount of people at the Open House, but those that were there were quality folks!  Chuck Brodsky never fails to delight me with his wonderful music, stage presence, and all around niceness.  A group of young farm interns were great fun, some of the funniest folks I've met in quite a while.  We let the pups out while they were still here, and it was a delight to watch them all together around the bonfire.  I can't remember the last time I laughed so much.

I've been pondering this space here, wondering if I should continue this blog.  It seems the blogs with dedicated, commenting followers have fairly consistent content, whether that's gardening, recipes, artful endeavors, beautiful photography, homemaking, etc.  I realize this blog is eclectic, rather much like my life.  One post may be about the garden, another on my latest craft project, yet another on New Earth's latest biofuel project, the pond, or the pups. Or maybe all of those rolled into one.

I read something that struck a chord on Maya's lovely blog, and it is that she intends for her blog to be a conversation, rather than a journal.  That's it exactly.  I know how busy we all are these days.  And I think you know I believe it's all good.  I've just learned to pay attention to where the energy flows in my life, and it feels as though this space is lacking in energy at this point.  I'm sure there will be things I want to share here, but I'm going to let go of any idea of how often that needs to be.  There are plenty of things in my life that could use an influx of good energy, and so for now, that feels right.  If you have thoughts about what you'd especially like to see here, or things you wouldn't care if you never saw again, feel free to comment.

The Green Machine

It's been an exciting week for New Earth Fabrication.

Joseph and Rick took delivery of a 21,000 lb. press brake (aka brake press).

It arrived on a flatbed and was moved to the shop with a large crane.

                           That was something to see!

The machine has a lot of history, as you can see.

By sundown yesterday, they had made some adjustments and had it running to suit them.

They can now bend 10 foot pieces of metal into a myriad of shapes.

The possibilities are endless, and some pretty wonderful ones are being discussed.

My Mom and Frank were on hand for the adventure.  Though they'll likely paint it, I thought it was pretty neat that it already matched the shop's paint color.

Green Business

The fab shop got spiffed up by J, with a coat of green paint on all the trim. It's coming right along. I planted green peas this week- a mix of Little Marvel, Pioneer and Early Alaska. This morning is warm and rainy, so I'm hoping the peas and all the cold frame greens will be encouraged to grow. We haven't gotten much from our cold frame this winter, except for some lettuce, a couple picks of spinach, and parsley for soup, sauces and potato salad. The kale, swiss chard, mixed winter greens and broccoli are doing very well the past few weeks. I have high hopes a winter salad is in our near future. We had a couple early in the winter, made with mostly volunteer garlic mustard, but it just wasn't the same. Bring on the greens!

I've been soap wrapping up a storm, and have recruited help for the weekend. Though I haven't managed it daily, I have had some one-hour paperwork sessions. It's amazing what can be accomplished in a focused hour. Hooray for organization.

Several things are up in my Wintersown containers. So far, I've seen Cosmos, Bachelor Buttons and Poppies. High hopes, I tell ya! Have a happy weekend, everyone!

New Earth is Up and Running

We did celebrate with that bottle of Prosecco, and New Earth Fabrication is working on their first job. The job is actually a tweaking that's being done on the Piedmont campus, but the shop is open for business. Congratulations, guys!

Something Meredith said a while back has been rolling around in my brain. She referred to me as a retired nurse, and at the time, I thought that might be a bit premature. But, as things seem to be working out, that just may be pretty accurate. There has been enough business in my soap shop to keep me mildly encouraged, and additional massage work coming my way. Though it is certainly a bit scary, I'm excited to see where things go from here.
