Winter Weather

Hello, friends.  We were able to see the monks last week.  My niece and her children had a homeschool trip planned that day, so it was just my sister and I.  They were all able to see them the next day.  We thought we timed it well, but ended up waiting 3 1/2 hours.  When they walked by, it all happened so quickly, though they did stop in front of us, to bless a young girl in a wheelchair, who was just beyond us.  It did my heart good.  I didn't take any pics, but my sister said I could share this.

Suet was made for the birds.  While I was putting Christmas away, I couldn't help but notice the beauty of the bird's nests.  Like much of the country, we spent time making preparations for the winter storm.  J winterized some things, and brought lots of firewood to the porch, and into the house.  I spread more leaves in the chicken coop, for added insulation, and filled half gallon jars with water, in the event of a power outage.  With gray skies and possible snow or ice cover on the solar panels, we knew we couldn't rely on them.  As I'm typing this, around 6 Sunday night, we've mostly gotten sleet.  The freezing rain has just begun, so we'll see how it looks in the morning.  I got out a jigsaw puzzle, and books from the library, for some happy pastimes during the storm.  I hope you're staying warm and safe.

What a wonderful way to start my week, with a post from you.
I'm so glad you got to support the monks in person. It had to be uplifting.
We have a lot of ice on the ground here in the Piedmont, but fortunately, we don't have anywhere we need to be. So grateful the storm has passed and that my neighbors have been spared damage. Tonight's cold will be challenging, a low of 6 degrees is predicted. So far, the chooks have done fine. Thankful for straw and our Omlet coops.
Enjoy today's sunshine, my friend!

I"m impressed you waited so long! It can keep one busy feeding the birds! They are so nice to see. Our snow changed to sleet and rain. The roads are clear this morning (Monday) but everything is closed. I have a dentist appointment though...the roads look perfectly clear. andrea

It was wonderful to see them in a small town, where there weren't masses of people. Thankfully, we got mostly sleet, with only a little freezing rain, quite different from the forecast. The only slippery spot I encountered this morning was the edge of our porch. Hoping that sun will break through soon! Stay warm and safe, friend!

It was difficult to tell where they'd be when. They had a scheduled stop early afternoon at a Buddhist temple, quite close to where we waited, and had a long walk before they reached their nighttime spot, so we thought they'd be through a bit quicker. We were thankful there was sun for most of that time. Birds are one of life's pleasures! Please stay safe.
