Work Continues & A New Mattress

Progress has been made on the skoolie, especially the past week.  Joseph has been running pipes for plumbing, and wiring the pumps.  He bought our mattress, crafted from organic wool and cotton.  I've been sleeping on clean mattresses since the 80's.  We spend so much of our lives with them, it makes sense not to expose ourselves to toxins, while we sleep.  PSA: if you're not aware, flame retardants and formaldehyde are common in conventional mattresses, which outgas toxins.  Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen.  The first mattress I bought, I had to provide a prescription saying I required a formaldehyde-free mattress for my health.  Thankfully, I was working in a Cardiology group, and one of the Dr's provided it.  It seems that's no longer a requirement.  Here's a link, if you'd like more info on the health risks of conventional mattresses.

Joseph has begun working on the generator.  Once it's running and placed, he'll fabricate a door for that space.  We've been discussing how once we're up and running, we could be of assistance in natural disasters and such.  Being we can be self-sufficient for a time, we could just park and have what we need, to easily be of service.  Something to ponder.   Onward.

I don't remember the first mattress brand, though I seem to remember it came from TX. The most recent one I got was called Pure Echo from Quality Sleep Shop, but it looks like that brand/style is no longer. I've been happy with both of those, but that's not much help. I seem to remember the first one was only filled with organic cotton, and the latest had both cotton and wool. I also have a topper of wool with cotton covering, which came from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KTW5K04/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

I'm allergic to latex, after years in the medical field, so choose latex-free mattresses. J doesn't remember the brand of this one, and neither of us has tried it out yet. It seems more like a futon than a true mattress, like my other ones have been. We're hoping it will be comfortable. I use an organic cotton pillow, but J uses a foam one. Possibly that would be a good place to start?

That's pretty neat, Laurie. We once bought a mattress that smelled so much of chemicals we had to return it. We sleep on an old rope bed and its mattress was made almost a hundred years ago and stuffed with cotton. On top we have a feather bed that we bought on Amazon. Works for us!

Hugs
Jane

It's good that mattress made it known how toxic it was, right off the bat. I've wondered how comfortable the rope beds were. I guess it passed the test! For many years, I moved around with my childhood feather pillow, until it finally disintegrated.
