Yesterday, after my massage work at Hospice, I stopped by a local thrift store and found this book. It's Woodstock Handmade Houses, and is similar to 2 other books I have, which inspired me throughout the building of my house. Certainly, some of the dwellings are pretty funky, but some are beautiful, soulful homes, like the one pictured here. I just searched a link for this book, & am astonished to find they've got my 1974 paperback version listed for $45 and up. Guess my $1.50 buy was a pretty good deal. I've been inspired by The Thrifty Chicks to keep an eye out for perfect, thoughtful thrifted gifts throughout the year, & did find one for a loved one that I'll put away. I did well last year, making a number of presents, as well as giving a couple thrifted gifts, but would like to do even better this year. I'd say its a good beginning.

I bought the paperback when it came out...back in the 70's.
I love the homemade house books and somewhere there is one around here.
I love your house and think it should be in a book!
Hey Tom! I've had 2 of the Handmade House books for years, but this was one I hadn't seen before. Meredith, you're sweet! You should see it right now! We've been having trouble with the woodstove drawing, so J has been emptying the woodstove of weeks of coals & then up on the roof to push thru some of the creosote. There must be a 1/2" of dust on everything!!
Dear Laurie...
Why is it that I can't seem to find these kinds of treasures in the thrift stores around here? Maybe I don't go enough. I probably should be going more often than once every 6 months. :)
Your post makes me want to venture forth and explore more often. Thanks for the inspiration.
And thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving your kind words. I'm so very glad to meet you!
Happy Thursday, friend!

Camie, I struggle too with knowing how often to thrift. On the one hand, you can't find deals if you don't go, but the more you go, the more likely you are to spend. I mostly wait until I have something specific I'm looking for. This week, though, I was inspired to see what end of the year items people had donated, after reading a Thrifty Chicks post. I'm so glad you visited and hope you'll drop by again!
